As you may all imagine Penny is very excited about the coming conference that is situated in Honolulu at the Hawaiian Conference Centre.  Penny has chosen accommodation at the Ilikai Hotel & is a short walk to the Conference Centre including it being less than a stones throw from Waikiki Beach.

Hello All,

I wish to thank all the wonderful and fully engaged couples that have attended our Calm Connexions Calmbirth Mid-Week & Weekend courses this year, you are truly inspiring me to be of greater service to our future parents.  

So with this in mind, I have enrolled in an exciting opportunity for enlightenment by attending the Wombecology Mid-Pacific Hawai’i Birth & Birthing Research Conference on the 25- 29 October 2012.  In Hawai’i, I will also be visiting local Birth Education facilities to learn more.  

Of course I will have my Man-Friday ‘Shaun’ with me to ensure my luggage is safe along with his role as food taster with his interest on the locally made Scones.

I will be out of the office from Wednesday 24 October 2012 returning on Monday 12 November 2012.  Although I will not be able to speak to you directly during my brief absence I will answer you email enquires.

Birth Art Prevent Birth Truama

From the Birthing from Within Workshop, I learnt a remarkable technique– How to Heal & Prevent Birth Trauma.

It’s Art. Art by the pregnant couple. Art that reflects their life. Their journey and what influenced their Decisions.

Drawing all this together into a labyrinth which is an ancient symbol encompassing all aspects of Life. The Labyinth can be a very useful tool to help birthing families understand the child – bearing year as a right of passage.

Childbirth Educator Pam England coined the term “LabOrinth” and incorporats the symbolic Labyrinth in her classes to illustrate to prenatal parents the experience of labour, birth and early post partum period not in the traditional way of a linear “Stages of Labour” but rather in a context of a “Hero’s Journey”. A journey that encompasses the multi-dementions of parenthood, one-step at a time.

There are choices to make, and there are dead ends along the way. There are surprising twists and turns. In the end the only way into the centre and out again is to feel your way.

In some way this special and unique birth art then becomes a templet for the initiation into the unexpected challenges of becoming a parent. It becomes a reference point to centre one – self and a resource that can then be used to deal with what is going on and a way of processing birth and the post natal period in a way that really can prevent and heal trauma.
